In my solo exhibition, I Found Myself Within a Forest Dark, and in the research that preceded it, I explored the narrative possibilities of exhibitions based on the structure of comics. I used symbolic elements of the mythical journey in the exhibition's images, but instead of emphasising the plot, I aimed to create a spatial narrative. Leaving the story open, the adventure has no definable beginning, end or lesson to learn. The gloom of the mythical atmosphere is lifted by references to the visuality of video games, thus the story of the hero's perilous journey becomes a track that can be replayed without stakes. The infiniteness of the narrative is also emphasised by the circularity of the exhibition space. The contrast between the archaic and the digital is also reflected in the materiality of the paintings. The darkly glossy surfaces of the paintings with oil on wood, and the details made by tiny brushstrokes evoke both the character of medieval icons and the smooth glow of digital screens.
